Carpinteria's No on Measure J Surf Art Show
Three hundred surf lovers and art fans rallied around surfing legend and local resident Shaun Tomson and 11 Carpinterian artists at the “Surf Art Show,” an event benefiting the grassroots, volunteer organization Citizens CAP (Citizens Committee Against Paredon Initiative) which opposes Venoco Inc.’s [NYSE:VQ] proposed Measure J.

Sleepy seaside Carpinteria woke up this morning to more than 500 ocean lovers saying “No on Measure J” at the Paddle Out Against Paredon event at the city’s beach. Surfers, kayakers, and supporters on the sand symbolized Carpinteria’s strength and sense of community, according to event organizer and surfer Carrie Reynolds. Additionally, the Chumash Maritime Association shared a traditional tomol (canoe).
